Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents emigrated to Louisiana in the early decade of the 1990s. Decker won a regional talent competition with a rendition from Patsy's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart at the age of just nine years old. At the age of 15, Decker resided in Georgia. She had been writing music regularly and was regularly visiting Nashville in search of discounts. At the age of 17, the Big Yellow Dog Records representative saw her work and began to sell her songs to labels and musicians. The moment Mercury Records president David Massey saw the demos of Decker, he sent them along to L.A. Reid head of the associated Island/Def Jam label group and Reid signed her to an agreement with a record label. Jessie James released her debut album in August 2009. The album was a self-titled release. Jessie James achieved a reasonable amount of popularity in the form of Wanted reaching the Top 40 charts. Although Decker has always believed she was a country artist the album was released and marketed with a pop audience in mind. After two more singles from the album, Decker confronted label executives to have more control over her music and her next single Boys in the Summer was a more country-oriented release. The album that Decker released as Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was pulled after Mercury saw the poor results of three of the singles on country radio charts.
